After 25 Years, I Still Love Walking Into a Factory

After more than 25 years working in food manufacturing, one thing hasn’t changed.

I still love walking into a factory.

Not because of the equipment.

Not because of the audits.

Because every business has a team with a story to tell.

Recently, I had the privilege of supporting Vivo Life through their HACCP certification journey.

Achieving certification was an important milestone for the business. But what stayed with me most wasn’t the certificate itself—it was watching people grow in confidence, strengthen their systems and work together towards a shared goal.

The Certificate Was the Outcome. The People Made It Possible.

Successful HACCP certification isn’t achieved by paperwork alone. It’s achieved by people who understand why the paperwork matters.

  • Leaders set clear expectations and create the right culture.
  • Technical teams build practical, robust systems.
  • Colleagues bring those systems to life through the decisions they make every day.

Together, those three elements create the foundations of a strong food safety culture.

Throughout my career, I’ve found that the strongest food safety cultures aren’t usually the ones with the biggest budgets or the newest facilities. They’re the organisations where people understand why food safety matters, feel empowered to contribute and take pride in doing things well.

That’s why, after more than 25 years in food manufacturing, I still love walking into a factory.

Because behind every process is a team of people capable of achieving more than they often realise.
